I know as of late on PennyxxLane that the topic of makeup has taken a backseat – I love makeup I still feel super giddy opening up a new eyeshadow palette, but the desire to buy tons and tons of makeup each month has subsided, thank god. It’s bloody expensive and brands release sooo much and I end up having different variations of the same stuff – so yeah that’s pretty much why you don’t see so much beauty around these parts nowadays and I’m okay with that.
With that said, I thought today I would share a few of my current makeup bag picks, little bits that are a constant in my makeup routine and a foundation that I haven’t used before.
I always really enjoy testing out different foundations, the foundation I’m using currently is the Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation. The foundation, as the name suggests gives a luminous finish, which it really, really does. I have quite dry skin but I still powder it down a little bit as the finish can be a bit too shiny for me. I also find when you first apply it, it looks a little bit orange, however, it does oxidise and once it does (it does take a few minutes to do so) and I’ve powdered I’m left with such a nice healthy glow which I really like.
The formula is also very thin which is perfect for my dry skin so I have experienced no annoying clinginess or dry bits.
It gives a light but buildable to medium coverage – I would say that it gives me enough coverage with covering blemishes and redness. It has a way of combining both a natural look but enhancing your skin colour. I usually like to wear foundations that are super-natural and makes me look like I’m not wearing any foundation, but I’ve really embraced and enjoyed the almost sun-kissed glow that this has given me.
I have history with the Tom Ford Eye Defining Eyeliner Pen, I was given it for Christmas a few years ago after coveting it for a while but after around a month I lost it and no joke up until last year I was still holding out hope of finding it. I came to terms that it was gone forever and that it was never going to pop up in one of my bags. So we had a beautiful reunion in Harvey Nichols where I repurchased him. I suddenly had this fear that I had built up in my head just how good this eyeliner was but I had not. I’ve used many eyeliners in my time and this one is just the best… I have super oily eyelids and I get zero to little transfer. I have the best eyeliner days when I use this bad boy. It is double ended but I mainly use the longer side but there are two options depending on what kind of flick you want to do or just what you find easier to work with. It is pricy but it’s definitely worth it.
I am a big fan of Charlotte Tilbury, her makeup has always proved to be such a lovely quality and the whole brand just gives off such a luxury feel – Pillow Talk is such a beloved shade, it comes after the success of the hugely popular lip-liner of the same name, it’s such a beautiful soft pink that will look gorgeous on most skin tones I would think. For me, it gives my lips a flush of natural colour, it really accentuates my natural lip shade. It’s one of those lipsticks that’s always in my bag because I know it will go with everything and never do me wrong. It has a matte finish that is not at all drying because Charlotte T is just some sort of genius.
Finally, we have my much loved Too Faced Chocolate Palette, I have a basketful of eye palettes but I always come back to this golden oldie. The shadows are so creamy allowing the colours to glide over your lid. As you can see from the photos I am obsessed with the shade Creme Brûlée, a gorgeous shimmery gold that is a complete staple for any occasion, whether I’m at work or heading for a few gins with my friends.
There are so many great colours and the quality is brilliant. Champagne Truffle is also perfect for a bit of highlight.
So there we have it a little round-up of all the important bits of makeup that I have been using a lot lately. I recently did a bit of a shop of my makeup stash and discovered some really great bits that I had forgotten about- it was so much fun and I would highly recommend doing so. None the less there are always those products that never leave the makeup bag.
